Overview:
Zambia is a place like no other. It boasts that it is "The Real Africa" and when you travel there you can easily see why. Zambia is home to some of the most exotic animals on the planet as well as Victoria Falls, one of the 7 wonders of the world. Its people are some of the happiest in Africa and 75% of the population is born-again Christians. The flip side of this beautiful people group is that Zambia is dying under the crushing force of AIDS. It is reported that over 22% of the adult population in Zambia has AIDS or HIV. Adults are dying at an alarming rate and by 2010 it is believed that over 50% of Africa will have died from AIDS. In Zambia, this means that many children are left with no parents to care for them and simple things like education are threatened because of teacher shortages. In 2000 it was reported that over 700,000 Zambian children age 15 and younger were living as AIDS orphans.
Our Zambian missionary partner has established four Children's Homes in Zambia which provide loving parental care to a growing number of children. They also run a school in a remote village which provides schooling and daily meals for over a hundred village children who are too poor to afford such care. They are bringing hope to children who desperately need it.
Your team will work side by side with people rescuing children from despair. They will help build homes for children who otherwise would be left to the streets. They will care for babies who have no mothers, and they will be testimonies to the hope that only Jesus Christ can bring.
The 52-week advantage for your youth group:
Trip benefits for your students
- Christian world view
- Passion for the lost in Africa
- Desire to study God's Word
- Confidence
- Humility
Work Projects:
Your group will do a variety of work projects including block laying, digging, concrete work, carpentry, painting and wiring.
Ministry Opportunities:
Every day your students will have a chance to interact with the children living in the homes by being a role model and a friend. Many of the children need strong role models in their lives and they also need to know the importance of a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. Your students will have the chance to build into their lives, to teach educational lessons, and to share their faith. Students will be responsible for preparing and leading a Vacation Bible School as a tool for teaching about Jesus Christ through games, skits and teaching of God's Word.
