Who We Are and What We Do
Who We Are
LeaderTreks is a student leadership development ministry using trips, innovative training, and curriculum to help students identify and develop their personal leadership skills. LeaderTreks is calling the church to make leadership development a core of youth ministry. Much like discipleship and evangelism, we feel leadership development is key to seeing the church grow and the culture change.
It's our belief that the church is one generation away from a leadership void and if we don't intentionally develop leaders, the church will struggle. To that end, we developed the LeaderTreks model for leadership development. We apply this model to missions, wilderness, adventure, and leadership training trips because we see the impact these types of trips have on students. We also develop curriculum to help youth pastors in the development process of students.
What We Do
We support the local church by providing leadership development tools and experiences designed to grow students into leaders. We have an intentional process for the development of students. We partner with youth leaders who are passionate about helping develop and equip the next generation of leaders in church and culture. Our experiences challenge and change participants. Students return confident and motivated with a broadened world-view and a new vision for how they can lead and serve others.
What Makes LeaderTreks Unique Leadership Principles + Practical Experience = Transformational Leadership Leadership can be learned. This truth is core to everything we do at LeaderTreks. Leadership is not something we are born to. It is a process. We believe that there is a set of leadership principles that when applied allow normal people to do extraordinary things. These principles include communication, problem solving, focus, and navigation. A great place to start in leadership is to learn how to use these principles effectively.
It is not enough, however, to just teach students principles of leadership. Students also need an environment where they can make decisions that lead to success or failure. Practical experience is where leadership principles come to life. At LeaderTreks we create a practical leadership experience through our trips and innovative training events. We look for ways to put students on the front lines and make tough decisions. It is through the stress and testing of difficult situations that leaders are made.
Transformational leadership is no secret. But it is powerful and effective. At LeaderTreks we have pioneered a proven program that develops leaders by giving them what they need (principles) and challenging them to use those skills (experience) to become all that God meant for them to be (transformational leaders).
Student Driven Learning
At LeaderTreks, we believe students learn best through student driven learning. On our trips, you won't find a speaker making an emotional appeal but instead you will find students studying together while an adult facilitates the discussion and keeps students focused on the truth of God's Word. We sit in a circle and learn from each other through the sharing of insights. This type of learning leads to growth. Too many mission trips end in an emotional high that last only a few weeks but at LeaderTreks, we want our trips and events to have a 52 week effect on your youth group.
Highly Trained Full Time Staff
LeaderTreks staff members are full-time professionals who complete extensive training in student development. During their first year on staff, they spend 15 weeks in intense training in a program called Summit. If they lead trips they spend 27 weeks a year training to develop your students into leaders. Our staff is passionate about students. They are not in the business of making students happy, they are focused on challenging students to produce growth. They will inform, inspire and challenge students to be all that God intended. Discipleship - Trip Book We believe that leadership and discipleship are woven closely together. LeaderTreks creates a customized trip book for each team designed to develop spiritual disciplines and personal development in each student. The trip book has three main sections: the daily devotional, a prayer journal, and a daily growth journal. Each morning, we set aside 45 minutes for devotions. The daily devotion will use a different Bible study method each day so students can learn how to study the Bible. The prayer journal will help your students learn how to pray and how to record God's responses to each prayer request. The growth journal is designed to challenge students by asking them tough questions about themselves and their relationship with Christ. |
