Fall 2007 Student Leadership Summit

October 1, 2007 - Youth Workers are invited to join local youth workers at the Student Leadership Summit hosted by LeaderTreks October 16, 2007 from 9am-11am. The Summit will include a lesson on student leadership development from Doug Franklin, brainstorming/discussion time, and a free breakfast.

Doug Franklin Bio:  

Doug was a youth ministry volunteer for a number of years when he was called to serve full-time as a youth pastor.  During his tenure at a Wheaton, IL church, he discovered the power of intentionally developing students as leaders in the church.  In 1994 he decided to start LeaderTreks with the mission of developing student leaders. Doug is going to share how to develop student leaders through the LeaderTreks development model. Don’t miss this opportunity to hear from one of youth ministry’s foremost thinkers on student leadership development.

New LeaderTreks Staff

September 1, 2007 - LeaderTreks is excited to bring on 5 new Summit Staff members for the ministry year. Bo Boshers Shares at Summit

April 16, 2007 – Willow Creek Executive Director of Student Ministries, Bo Boshers spoke at LeaderTreks’ Student Leadership Summit held in Carol Stream on April 10th. Approximately 50 youth workers gathered from around the nation to talk about the importance of mentoring in developing students as leaders.

After an engaging 30 minutes with Bo, attendees of the Summit broke into small groups and discussed how to practically put the lessons to work in their ministries.

HoneyRock Partnership


LeaderTreks is partnering with HoneyRock Camp, the Northwoods Campus of Wheaton College. LeaderTreks will be leading a two week mission trip to Costa Rica for the students involved in the MTP program at HoneyRock. This is not your typical student mission trip; this group will be traveling high into the mountains of Costa Rica to bring clean water to a village that currently does not have it, this will be life saving for the villagers and life changing for the students.

Campus Crusade South America Partnership

LeaderTreks has been partnering with Campus Crusade for Christ  for the past two years through a license agreement that allows Campus Crusade to run the LeaderTreks leadership training events throughout Latin America. Currently the program is running strong in over seven countries. Doug Franklin has just returned from Bolivia where he reports that the Campus Crusade staff is excited about the positive response they have been getting from students and the university where they are running the leadership events. Campus Crusade is using the training events for both evangelism and discipleship. Campus Crusade is reporting that 750 students a month are being trained as leaders using the LeaderTreks models. other partnerships >

Rahn speaks to Chicagoland youth workers

CAROL STREAM, IL—Dr. Dave Rahn, professor of youth ministries at Huntington University, visited LeaderTreks on Nov. 2 where he shared the importance of student leadership development to a gathering of youth workers from the Chicagoland area. At the Student Leadership Summit, youth workers joined in a discussion with Rahn about the best practices for equipping student leaders.

Youth pastors, volunteers and LeaderTreks staff learned about different models of leadership in youth ministry as well as the importance of equipping leaders. After sharing with the staff and youth workers, he sat down with Matt Schulte, director of Youth Pastor Resources, and shared his thoughts on student leadership development.
